What a terrific picture! How'd you get down at their level, that close, without them coming over to see what's up? Every goose I've ever known has been a busybody...

Are they as good a predator watch dog for your poultry as they are revered?

Don't they eat everything in sight?

    What about the guano?

Karen...these geese are embdens...the biggest and most aggressive variety. The Chinese geese are supposedly more aggressive, but they don't have the size to back it up. If they are coming toward you...you need a big stick. Or some food. They'll halt for some food. Also, I hand raised them, so they do respect me just a tad. But it's not too hard to get good photos of them. They'll come up to me, but they won't advance unless I turn my back on them.

Jane, they are really good at alerting, but are not so good at fighting predators off. They eat grass and weeds. They'll eat corn or goat feed but it's not so good for them to do so. They poop a lot. Here it's not so bad since they range the entire farm, but while I had the 20 goslings living here at the house when I was raising them...it got awfully bad. The grass was eaten down to the roots and there was goose poop everywhere.
